The Store Was Burglarized!!

Burglary:
I want everyone to know that the SCUBA Daddy’s location was robbed during the holiday. Even though we were planning to no longer sell equipment we had planned for a full service center with air fill station. We still had some gear in the store too. The thieves took a Craftsman Rollaway tool box full of SCUBA specialty tools and some standard tools. Figurines and statues were taken also. A MKII AGA full face mask, yellow skirt with com system was also stolen; it belongs to a customer. 4 tanks were stolen as were the gifts I had saved for my kids and mom for this year’s Christmas. There were many other small things taken and the big kicker is the compressor. I had a NITROX stick system and a W32, with touch screen, ALKIN compressor that was taken out the back door. Boy, when it rains it pours. This shop doesn't get any breaks. Your not wearing a "Kick me" sign are you? Good luck with the recovery/investigation process.

I wonder if it was the same people that robbed Going Under Dive Center. You should get together with Ron and compare notes.

Closing the business, then someone steals everything, all in a week?  Not good. 

Those are pretty sophisticated thieves.  To have the ability to disconnect the lines and connections to the compressor, especially since alkin's have the 3 phase electric hook-up that if properly installed is hardwired to the buildings electrical box.  And then to be able to get up and move a 1000 lb compressor out the door, grabbing everything else in the meantime, all while in the dark with the burglar alarm going off is a pretty amazing feat of thievery. 

Do you suspect an inside job?  For all that, it would have to be an inside job, don't you think?

Burglary sucks, but with all that would be required to pull a job like that, you’d think the police should be able to catch whoever is responsible for this criminal act pretty quickly.

You did have a monitored alarm system I hope.  Or should I say, I hope not.  Although an alarm system will not prevent a burglary, it SHOULD detect it.  I spent 17 years in the alarm industry (thank god I'm out of that, but I digress), btw.  Anyhoo, watch the thrifties, Ebay and Craigslist.org.  You might even want to post pictures of the stolen items if you have them.  I check the last two on a fairly regular basis and I'm sure others here do too.

It doesn't take a brain surgeon to unhook the lines. It wasn't an inside job and we do have a suspect that is being looked at very hard. Yes, it sucks but what can I do? I am not going to cry about it. I am going to give every bit of info and cooperation to the police and hope they nail the snake who did this. I have moved that compressor before. It takes two people and I think there were only two people who did the job and gave those names to the police. They are the scum of the earth and I hope they read this. They are the worst, they are cowards!

Not rocket science H DAWG, just simply crazy.  Yeah, these thieves really are snakes!  Someone spent their Thanksgiving Day (of all things!!) knowing they are going to break into a business and steal a bunch of equipment.  Though it wasn’t rocket science, it’s scary they could move that fast to dismantle all that stuff and know what it would take to move a 1000lb compressor.  As you said, you know what it takes to do that.  Hopefully the culprits will be caught and prosecuted to the full extent of the law. 

Even though you are no longer in business H DAWG, you have to feel for the loss of your former customer’s personal belongings in your possession?  Isn’t that “the real kicker” as you say?  I hope they understand you did everything you could?  Did the alarm system fail?

Isn’t just all within the last year or so that Going Under gets broken into, and Scuba Daddy’s has been broken into, isn't it twice now this year?  What if it’s the same people?  That’s scary.  H DAWG, you should contact Ron at Going Under, your combined efforts could lead to getting these guys.  Let’s hope they catch these crooks fast.  H DAWG, you said it true, “They are the scum of the earth and I hope they read this. They are the worst, they are cowards!” 

The violation, the loss, the feel of vulnerability, it could be devastating to a lot of people.  Sounds like all-in-all you are not worrying about it too much, you are stronger than most.

While we are all concerned with the break in, and the loss of not only The compressor and tools, but the customers equipment as well, I personally feel that this thread has too many underlying assumptions and accusations attached to it.  The case number has been listed if anyone has any information.  I would suggest that no dive shops look to purchase a used compressor in the future without looking into it. 

It would be my request that this thread be moderated as it is going to turn into a bashing session very quickly if it is allowed to go.

I mean like how anyone can be bashed on this forum..i dont see how it can be constructive in any capacity..whether it be Ron Benson, Hardy Delay or any other person to ridicule someone that has been put into this situation
