Terrorism task force targets scuba training
In todays StarTribune the FBI is asking the nation's scuba instructors to watch for potential terrorist threats. They are alerting dive shops nationwide to look out for divers seeking advanced training, including diving in murky water and in sewer pipes. Is this a new PADI course?

Re: Terrorism task force targets scuba training
So how many dives do you need to do to get your ASPD (advanced sewer pipe diver) cert anyways?

Maybe it's a new PADI specialty?

Re: Terrorism task force targets scuba training
Dan, I think it is not so much how many dives, but how low vis they were, that is required for certification. For example, a dive with mostly "gray water" would require more dives than "black water" would, to use an example from the RV arena. The question then becomes, how many gray water dives equal one black water dive, don't you think? Dan, we could be the first to establish standards for this type of diving! Let me know if you want to work on this. BTW, as you are more experiened, I can work on the paperwork, and you do the rest? |

Re: Terrorism task force targets scuba training
Do instructors really need to be warned about students asking about sewer pipes! I'm no instructor but if someone asked me I'd call others over to laugh at them.
ASPD is next seasons Discovery series after Deadliest Catch. Staring Mike Row, Turd Wrangler.
Ask your doctor if getting off your ass is right for you.

Joe, I was thinking you could combine this with your DPV specialty. Do they still call it a "silt-out" when you run into the bottom in black water pipe? :o

Re: Terrorism task force targets scuba training
But when we dive in Minnesota, isn't it frequently in "low-vis situations?"
Then, next thing you know, they are going to have to remove those concrete pipes in Wazee so no one uses them for training!! : And they were so much fun to swim through!
My name is Lisa and I'm a SCUBAholic. It's been toooo long since my last dive!

Re: Terrorism task force targets scuba training
SDI has a low vis specialty course. Developed by a local instructor to. Although I'm not sure anyone was ever certified.

Re: Terrorism task force targets scuba training
According to my ASPD manual its technically called a "SHIT OUT"......And frankly what damage are they going to cause by swimming through turds>>>i would be more worried about what they might be able to do with out fresh water supply as opposed to our black water supply.....hell in Milwaukee its routine to "accidently drop 250,000 gal of "Terrorist Training Supply" right into the river..
Oops Did I really say that?????
