Re:Utila, Honduras
I've been there and we dove with whale sharks. It was great and the place is cheap. Becareful about the sand flies as they bite hard.
The whale sharks are amazing, but you need to freedive with them- no scuba was allowed. Jon

Re:Utila, Honduras
Bubbles aren't the problem.
Rebreathers weren't allowed by the operation we were with. They seemed to imply that no scuba gear was allowed while you were in the water with them-neither OC or CCR. You also wouldn't be able to swim fast enough on the surface to catch them with all of the stuff on your back. Now scooters would have been really cool. ;D Jon

Re:Utila, Honduras
Hi Gang,
Most Dive operators go looking for Whale sharks in-between dives. If they allowed people on scuba the possibility of overextending bottom times, diving to deep without paying attention etc. Could lead to problems that only the Chamber could solve. Most Whale shark encounters occur in depths well over 500'. When snorkelers enter the water the bait fish the Shark feeds on scatter. Causing the Shark to dive. Even the most experianced divers-snorkelers come to the boat acting like grade school kids. It's so cool to see this happen. Funny how this sport of ours changes us in so many ways! I'll post some photo's taken from the video later this month. Stop by Scuba Dive and Travel to see the Video in Mid April! I love the photos you posted freedive WI! Who did you dive stay and dive with? Do to popular demand we are going back next year! Paul |
