ICSD New Shipwreck Challenge...
This new thread is to offer up a challenge to Minnesota area divers. I have noticed that divers tend to dive the same lakes over and over, and not explore the other 9,964 less popular lakes.

So here is the challenge: Start a friendly competition between us for who, or which team, finds the most non documented wrecks. These can be as small as a rowboat and as big as an ore boat but must have been a floating vessel at one time (cars don't count). They have to be in water touching the perimeter of Minnesota. These waters would include Lake Superior, Mississippi River, St. Croix River, Red Lake, and Lake of the Woods. For the wrecks to count, there must be a photograph or video attached, date found (lets go back 3 years from todays date of 4-21-2010 to account for recent finds), location of the wreck (or at least a general location if the wreck is under investigation). other divers name or nickname who witnessed the find, and to the best of your knowledge whether or not this find has been seen previously by other divers. Partial credit will be given for wrecks that are only a possibility of it being a "never seen since it sank" type wreck.

I think this will be fun and I will start dropping in our finds from the Isanti County Sheriffs Department Dive Team when I get home from work.

Good idea! This could be a good resource for new dive sites to kill a Saturday on.

Ya, Shooters right, have got to have GPS #s to them. Otherwise I remember this ore carrier in Minnetonka, had to be as big as the Fitz!      TRINITY

Re: ICSD New Shipwreck Challenge...

If beer is what it takes to get people to play the game then beer it is. Not sinking the vessels ourselves will take some of the fun out of it, but just remember I drink O'Doules.  8)

Ok... you can not sink a vessel just to find it and win a beer. The real winner will be all of us, getting some interesting new sites to dive.

Wreck #1: Red Fiberglass Runabout IO minus the lower unit that should be near the boat. Found by AandA while ice diving with Shooter and Arcflash on 12-30-2007 in Green Lake. Last seen by human eyes around 2001 when it sank. Later confirmed with authorities that The 5 people onboard made it shore. Link to one of the video's:

Rough coordinates are: N45 34.078' W93 26.314'
as the boat had a date with a lift bag and it was moved slightly from 25' of water to about 17' deep.  This site is better if dived through the ice as summer viz is 3' max and winter viz can be 15'

More accurate coordinates will be entered here as I get them.

Here are the more accurate coords since the boat was moved a bit with the lift bags: N45 34.149' W93 26.355'

Wreck #2: 14' White wood boat sitting in 18' deep water. Found by myself on a solo dive in Pike Lake near Hermantown MN on 7-4-2009. this boat was scuttled as it had rocks inside the boat.  link to one of the video's:
Viz here was 6' on the day of the dive but I have seen the viz as good as 10' here.
coordinates are: N46 51.829' W92 17.928'
