Lake Phalen
We made a quick dive at Lake Phalen today.  We didn't go much below 20 feet or so.  Bottom temps were around 47 degrees.  You'd have to be a lot tougher than me to do it in a wetsuit.  Viz was pretty poor, but Kristi did find a 1920's orange crush bottle and a kids telescope of some kind.  We're still trying to get all the water out of the telescope to make it work.  Pics will come later.

It was a short dive, so I'm thinking I may try to get one in some night this week or next weekend to polish off the tank. If anyone has ideas, let me know.

Re: Lake Phalen
yeah, im guessing there might be some bad vis right now on all the city lakes. i havent looked at harriet or calhoun, but with all the melting and drainage and warm temps i don't think they will be much better.

maybe something outta the metro might fare better for vis.

oh yeah vis was like 5 feet Tongue

Harriet was awful this week ago, Isles was even worse.  Minnetonka is your best bet.  Wayzata Bay was around 10' today.

Re: Lake Phalen
Short dive was right.  First time out with the dry suit to find out how many leaks I have to fix later, and test buoyancy skills.  Let's just say I have to work on that part. Tongue

Sorry Joe,

Could have gone a little longer if I had put enough weight in the BC.  Next time will be better.

Re: Lake Phalen

Just ask Matt how many times to shore I had to go the first time with my new suit and heavier undergarment..... too much weight and you can always take some out and stick it in the float- not enough and you make several trips into shore......I'm glad those first crazy dives are now behind me!

Ahhh Finally some pics!  After a few hours of cleaning out all the lake water in the telescope and having the leather mix with some coffee beans for a few days to get rid of the stench... I can report that it does in fact work!!!!

Nice Find and the scope looks like it cleaned up really good.

Re: Lake Phalen
Yes it did- This was my best lake find yet!  I can't believe that telescope was in the box just sitting at the bottom. It sure was stinky though.....
