more awsome freediving spots with fish.
well after some trial and error, ive found tons more good spots that i would like to share with the community.
at the head waters of the st.croix(wisconsin) there are two dams both of which have a fair number of various river fish.just outside the city of trego, and the city of gordon. both rivers are shallow with washout hole. walleyes are about 12-18inch size. nice mix of suckers and other stuff. one of my boys that was leading us slightly saw several muskies at trego but all were small(20lb or less probably), did see a stergeon up close, and some of the suckers had lampreys. water is stained and about 6ft vis.. duluth is about an hour north so we went there also. lester river park had supierior lake water at 64deg perfect for freediving with vis 40ft probably, we saw one large fish that we couldnt ID before it was gone. and a couple other guys were also freediving at this road side stop(in duluth). montisipi park in elk river(missisippi river) has public access. alot of people shore fish here as a small hole is closse to shore. i went in and found it full of small walleyes and crappies, in fact once you knew were to look, you could see them from shore!!!!. my boys shot a fair sizedĀ 10lb carp, after several dozen missed shots, and i shot a monster carp that probably pushed 25lbs+ , I got it under my arm and then it shook off on the wrestling way back to shore.oh well got the stink back though

Re: more awsome freediving spots with fish.
oh and i almost forgot, the clearwater river that winds through coldspring to the mississippi river, is for the moment getting super low and clear, it normaly is pea green. this water system has good sized carp, both scaled and the rarer leather and mirror.(true leather carp are uncommon in the state. they are different from the mirror in that they have only few scales running allong the top dorsal fin, and the rest is leather only.this is caused by a rare lethal gene combination that was probably introduced into the genitic pool via ornimental carp escape.
anyways the clearwater river is running on the clear side also. lots of shore walk in spots. although every time i do one tons of people stop and watch. and i have to run to escape the questions.

Re: more awsome freediving spots with fish.
just also discovered a shore access park just south of stillwater that accesses a quiet bay on st.croix river/lake. the back corner of this bay has somewhat uncommon weed formation that attracts schools of suckers and carp, and the occasional musky. vis is on the low side. but this is an unusual find for this spots. the swim from the park access is on the long side. there is a road access that runs behind this bay, but not much for parking, i have seen people park on the side of this road and shore fish pan fish back there, so it should be possible.
