Ice Diving

Well I have been talking with many ice fisherman lately and have been out on some local lakes and here is what I have gathered and forged into the unofficial ice report for general lakes within two hours of the cities.

And my conclusion is that the lakes have at least three inches of ice on almost all of them.  However, some have thicker ice, and some have thinner ice.  The rule of thumb is not to attempt to go out on the ice until most lakes have at least five inches.  This tends to prevent many fall through accidents because many of the lakes are spring Fed, and can cause thin spots on the ice.


All in all, most lakes should be safe to walk on at least, and I would not recommend the use of any motorized vehicles on any of the lakes south of Winnibigosh because of the warmer temperatures.  Wait for at least one week of thirty degree temperatures or lower to ensure a safe time out on the ice.

We were doing a recovery job today on the river and had 2-3 inches on the shore line. somebodies is very confoosed.
