Re: Wazee report
There are better things to come at Lake Wazee, the people in charge realize that divers have to see changes to keep coming back. They are receptive to suggestions.
The County Board has to approve any expenses for the park. In the past they have been very stingy about spending because the Board members were "Old School". The park had a rough start with the local people in the early days (Mid 90's). There were a number of divers who had tragic incidents there and that weighed heavily on the people in the area. The present board has new people (younger) in it. We (Divers) are part of their overall plans for the park. We have been asked to present suggestions to the board in the future. We are trying to get some people on the board to do a road trip to Gilboa Quarry in Ohio. If you haven't been there, do a road trip and visit the place. We are hoping by taking the initiative that we can improve the park for divers. There are plans for more tables ( like the one on site 1) for divers to use. Tables that are designed for divers tanks (singles or doubles). There are plans for more camp sites and restrooms too. We have been a part of Lake Wazee since it's inception. We don't mind the cost or the drive because we know that they look out for us at their park. I used to go to Crosby a lot (mid 80's) Back when Bill M was still selling Sattelite dishes out of his store. For us in the SE MN, we have a choice, Crosby or Lake Superior. The big "S" would be a better dive, but that is a 5-6 hour drive (same as Crosby) for us. Wazee is a win -win situation for us. Deep , good vis, platforms, Molly's Grill ;D, and when Keith gets his store up Helium ;D. We will be there this weekend! Jim Campos MDC Sports Rochester, MN |

Re: Wazee report
More campsites would be nice, but it means more people there on the weekends, there is already not enough parking spaces at the sites.

Re: Wazee report
Most of us take life way too seriously already and complain we don't have time.... all more the reason to play hooky from work once in a while and go mid-week to Wazee and avoid some congestion.
For the majority of local divers, the season is just a narrow window to enjoy the local scene each year, Wazee still provides the best area for diving short of Superior. |

Re: Wazee report
I agree with the diving, I like the place and really don't have any problems other than the cost of things when I don't see much else happening for divers. The cost to enter the park is about $3 a day and thats all the swimmers are paying for the beach, parking lot, bathrooms, ect, and the divers have what, a just paved road and a portable john, and one wood table, dive platforms #4. I just think that if all the money is being collected from divers it should be used for divers. Or maybe charge $10 to swim(per person) That would be $40 for a family each day. Im just saying that put the money where is should be, in diving or change the fees.
Go Big, or go home!

Re: Wazee report
I did a couple of dives today at the site nearest the camp grounds and the vis was pretty consistent at least down to 70'. Somewhere in the 20-30' range. The best I have personnally seen. It was getting a little stirred up at the entry by the second dive. Guessing about 100 divers thru-out. Campers were claiming land rites at the dive sites, as well.

Re: Wazee report
Just got back from a day trip to Wazee
Visibility was fantastic, best I have seen this year. It was clear as a bell from the top down to 'Hoffa'. I just have one question...Anyone know who busted the gazing ball ???
Don't believe the hype!

Re: Wazee report
Wow, I thought the gazing ball at Wazee was a stainless steel one but obviously not. MAKA tried to put one down at Lake Mine last week but it shattered on descent as shown below.
