Re: Lake Mine

Yes, google maps just plain rock!

Okay, I couldn't find it before cuz I didn't know it was past biwabik...  here's an updated link to a sattelite map of the area where you can clearly see how to get to the lake.  Looks like a pretty good sized lake.  What's max depth like?

Let me know if I have the map centered on Lake Mine or not.

Thanks!

Re: Lake Mine
Yep, that would be Lake Mine.  The max depth is 465 feet.

Re: Lake Mine
Beautiful day at Lake Mine today.  Viz was pretty good...I'd say 30+ feet from the surface down to depth.  It was very consistent without any hazy silt layers present.  Looking forward to going back up there next weekend. Smile

Re: Lake Mine
Viz was as previously stated...better than 30'.  We didn't get over to the pillar...maybe next time.  The little trail going that way looked a bit rough for the van.

75 degrees at the surface, 41 degress at 70 to 80 feet!  Brrrr!!

Yeah, I didn't make it over to the pillar either.  I didn't want to take my car through those big puddles.  I did get my car back there last fall though and it wasn't bad at all.  It's mainly that first part that's kinda bad where that big bump and dip are at.

Re: Lake Mine
Looks like you had fun.  I was up there as well, staying with some friends at a cabin near The Range.  I was at Lake Mine on Saturday and Orebegone both Saturday and today.  I hadn't dived up there before and I was pretty impressed.  Great vis at depth.  Looks like some nice alternatives to Wazee.

Re: Lake Mine
Concerning that little road to the right, we saw a car had gone through that big puddle, and he stalled just on the other side...had the hood up.  Probably got the plugs wet.

We did a surface swim all the way to that point to the right.  I still didn't see the pillar.  That swimming business is just too much work.  i'm paying for it today....

Re: Lake Mine
No doubt.  The surface swim is pretty long from the other access too.  There's no way I'd surface swim to the pillar from the boat launch.  A kayak would be great for that dive site.
