Re:Ice Diving
Lake Owasso is located on Lake Owasso Blvd. west of Rice street and just south of 694.

If you are already Ice Diver certified you can show up at 11am. Diving will be on a first come first serve basis.

To access the lake, use the North East boat access. We will try our best as to give accurate directions once on the lake, prior to the start of the dive.

Re:Ice Diving
Scott,

You mention that the ice specialty includes 2 dives and tending for a dive? Doesn't the specialty require 3 dives over 2 days time? Or is this a different agencies certification?
Who is the instructor teaching the course?

Thanks.

Re:Ice Diving

This is the PADI Ice Diver certification and I am teaching this course. I just, again, verified with Leroy, from the PADI training department, that you may conduct 3 training dives in 1 day. The tending portion of the class is a portion of dive # 1 objective which is part of the overall dive. For clarification purposes, there is 3 underwater dives for this specialty. We will be conducting the 3 dives in one day.

Re:Ice Diving
Scott,

PADI allows 3 training dives in one day - but NOT with all specialties. You may have needed to be specific with Letroy that this is for the Ice Diver Specialty.
On PADI's website, it clearly states that 3 training dives must be conducted over 2 days time for the ICE Diver Specialty. The training standards and quality control department at PADI verified this and also checked that no new training standards adjustment has been made to in this regard. Further, the PADI training department referenced that this is in the PADI Specialty Instructor Manual.
This specialty may be new for you and your shop and the instructors, but the Ice Diver is a slightly unique one in the PADI corriculum that is required to be done over two days.

I was hoping it could be done in one, but not by the standards.

Re:Ice Diving
After checking into this further, the Director of PADI training has confirmed that you are correct, Dirk. The 3 dives will be conducted over 2 days. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.

Re:Ice Diving
I really wish they (PADI) would reconsider this. Doing 3 dives in one day at the temperatures that places like Crosby at depth offers, is no different than ice diving. Going out to the lakes when its so cold in the air for the second day shouldn't be necessary. It would be so nice to do it in one day. Do you know of other training agencies standards in this?

Re:Ice Diving

Scuba Diving International (SDI) Ice Diver course requires two ice dives. To be certified, the ice diver canidate will also be familiar with surface & safety support. You do not need to be advanced diver certified... in fact, the course can be applied to SDI's advanced diver course...

I believe that PADI Ice Diver certification requires the diver to already have the advanced diver certification.

I do not know what the other agencies require for ice diver certification...
