slightly differet ear problem
I just finished my certification this weekend. Yay! Saturday, my right ear clogged up. It only hurt when it was clearing on the way down. But it sure made a lot of noise during the whole dive. I take potassium iodide drops, and a decongestant before diving. Now, my ear is clogged, and I spit a bit of blood out -usually early in the morning. It doesn't hurt, but I can see that it might in another day or two. I have swim ear, doesn't do anything but burn the skin a bit. Go see the doc, - yes. I did a dive in Hawaii and had the same issue. Only it drained pretty quickly. When I got back, Ihad the doc look at it and there was a bit of blood behind the eardrum. He told me to chew gum, take decongestants. In 2 weeks, (before my cert dive) I had himlook at it again, and all was normal. But for now, it is driving me crazy. I can tell there is a good deal of water in it. The dives weren't especially painful, and it hasn't hurt since it clogged onSat. But it is irritating. Any inpug? - Imay have small eustachian tubes. -Jenny |

Re:slightly differet ear problem
Jenny, congratulations on the new certification and welcome to mnscuba.
A clogged ear and blood don't sound like a good combination. I recommend going to see an ENT Specialist. Or, at least go to a walk-in clinic before it develops into something more serious. The faster you deal with it the quicker it will resolve itself.

Re:slightly differet ear problem
Doc put me on prednisone for 6 days.
Said it is purple (blood) and has some air bubbles behind the ear drum. Still no pain. I went jogging, jumped on a trampoline, and still it hasn't cleared. What are Vikes? -Jenny |

I have been a Vikes fan since I was a little boy.......Their lack of heart when its all on the line (the last few years) makes me tear up... :'(

Re:slightly differet ear problem
The prednisone seemed to help the first day! The ear almost cleared up completely, but then overnight came back somewhat. I'll take the pred for today, too. It does make me wonder if I'm doing something wrong, or if this just isn't my sport. |
