DIR - LiftBag

I'm as much DIR as DRE probally more so Because what I gather on the site no one has anything more than just DIR-F which dosnt make you DIR.

Anyone who has taken futher classes in DIR knows finger reels are not suitable for lift bags. Unless you make up your own rules as you go. Which is not a DIR concept.

This is the DIR section of the MNScuba Forum. While I appreciate all the different points of view expressed in the recent posts on this thread, the purpose of this forum is for the free expression and exchange of ideas - not to DIR bash.

Aquaman - the statements you have made in your posts are contrary to DIR philosophy. If you would like to debate the pros and cons of DIR or simply insult DIR divers - as it is your freedom of speech to do so - I suggest you post your ideas and opinions on a different section of the forum - not on a thread where a specific discussion about a DIR procedure is in process.

This was one of the concerns voiced by MNScuba members when the DIR section was added. I feel that some of the recent posts on this thread do not serve the purpose or the readers/contributors of this section, and it is my responsibility as the moderator to step in at this point.

Right, and no one has ever bashed rebreathers in the rebreather forum.

Maybe people wouldn't bash DIR so much if the few who ruin the concept by opening up thier mouths all the time, would take a back seat. I know plenty of divers who subscribe to the DIR principals and are very good ambassadors to the GUE and DIR sector of diving.

I think the few I'm talking about on this board who I feel ruin it know who they are.

I think half of what's fun about this forum are the rebreather and DIR debates. It's fun to read the differing viewpoints, it serves an educational purpose, and it makes you think about how you dive. That being said, when the viewpoints that are being expressed go beyond the issues and attack the individual they no longer serve that purpose.

another usage of liftbags is when you go spearfishing or artifact hunting - you can use the bag to shoot your bounty to the surface, which in the case of spearing in shark infested waters is crucial, especially when you're doing deeper dives where you might have a deco obligation. That's where another element of DIR comes into play, ie diving with a squared away boat operator: if he knows your dive plan he can check whether there's a fish hanging of your liftbag and he can drag on board before it becomes shark bait.

Also, a CC liftbag can serve as a boyancy tube on the surface - in the water column it's not as crucial as you'll be diving a balanced rig anyway.

If anyone has any other usages for a liftbag please add to this conversation, which seems to be back on track again . IMO, the only place where I wouldn't take a liftbag is on a cavedive.
