Re:Monthly pool session
So what kind of time frame should we shoot for? Late January-Early Feb... or say January 11th.....???? (I'm out of town the 18th to the 25th but if those days are best don't wait for me Smile

Guess we might want to check availability and see what options we have??

Re:Monthly pool session
I'll call Bill Tues and start making plans for Jan 11. At $150, weekends would be best to get max use.
Note that the pool is max 9ft (I think) deep. But that's deep enough to try fins, practice bouyancy or buddy breathing, drysuit use (too warm?), breathe from that new reg, etc.
Also, the pool is heated, but after spending hours in the pool you might want a 2 or 3 mil wetsuit. I've seen students shivering like crazy after an hour in the water.
Also, let's try to make it the second Sat of each month for some uniformity and to make planning easier. So, dates would be Jan 11, Feb 8, March 8. By April, there WILL BE OPEN WATER SOMEWHERE nearby! So let's plan the next three months. Typical Saturday would start at 9 or 10? End at three?
Other ideas, comments, reco's or preferences, just post 'em and we'll get this thing kicked off.
I suppose I should say I'm only offering to co-ordinate the planning and not accepting any responsibility for the sessions, activities or events.

Re:Monthly pool session
Thanks Dan- Let me know if you need anything at this point. As soon as we confirm a date I can get directions posted.

Just a thought but seeing I own everything but a tank I'll try to rent it from Scuba Daddy's to return the favor of helping us out. It's always great to see a shop that's willing to step up and help out.

Hope to see everyone the 11th.....

Re:Monthly pool session
Just a thought, what about scuba shops that have their own
pools. I believe Scuba Center in Eagan has one.

Re:Monthly pool session
GUDC also has a pool. Now we need some weighted hoops to create an obstacle course.

Re:Monthly pool session
Good point about trying to get a dive shop with a pool. Does anyone have a good relationship with one of these shops? GUDC is about 15 minutes from my house but I've never purchased anything from them. I think we would have better luck talking to them if the person asking the question was someone they have worked with before??? They might go for it just to get people in the store and looking around. Even if were just coming to use the pool I'm sure a few of us would see something we couldn't live without. I know my wife is always scared everytime I goto a dive shop.

As for the Apple Valley pool I'm still in for the 11th if we can make it happen.

Re:Monthly pool session
GUDC used to charge $35/hr per person, minumum 2 people. Another place to look at is the Lifetime Fitness in Plymouth. They were charging 10/per person (minimum $100) for the first hour and $30/hr after that. It has a really nice diving well on one end.

Re:Monthly pool session
Just to mention it for the future. The University of Minnesota dive well is also an option. It's spendy but big. 54 feet by 75 feet and 16 to 18 feet deep.

Cost- $80 per hour plus $10 per hour for Life Guard
Insurance- $46 flat fee plus $.20 per person

Would be nice for a large group. I get certified by a friend in that pool and it's worth a few extra dollars.

Still like the $150 for a day in Apple Valley but if we get a large group interested in a weeknight the U is the place.
