The thing that gets me about this story is that it's physiologically impossible to breathe through a snorkel at 30 ft. There's no way that your lungs can inhale air that is a whole atmosphere lower in pressure than your ambient. Even if he would have kept the hose in his mouth it wouldn't have worked.

He is definitely up for a 2004 Darwin Honorable Mention (The stupidity displayed by the participants
in the following tales stops short of the ultimate sacrifice, but we salute their spirit and innovation.), do you think he considered what he was going to do with the 20 pound anchor when he wanted to return to the surface? Maybe it was his second dive/snorkel to retrieve the anchor. ???
