Re:Recent diver fatality
I believe the authorities attributed the incident to a medical condition which caused the fatality. His family was aware of the medical issue and helped provide that information from the start of the receovery process.
If the guy has a heart attack or something and dies - perhaps instantaneously, or looks to have drowned, his buddy may or may not have been able to do anything about it. Surface air, bailouts, etc might have been great, but not necessarily been able to help agaisnt this medical issue in this particular case? If his buddy came closer and noticed him dead, and couldn't free the body from entanglement - I'm sure his buddy might have been a little shook up and probably went to go find help or contact the authorities? His buddy may not have known what he died from either, and perhaps did the best thing in not further possibily endangering himself, but instead calling for help? It's too bad nothing was able to be done to help him survive. There are many instances of diver fatalities where the diver had plenty of air left and simply the medical condition was the deciding factor which lead to the death. The media doesn't know anything, they simply report it as a drowning. Then later after the sensationalism has left the front page and repalced with cave suffocations, an autopsy may reveal the true cause of the diver's death. That notice gets placed into the back pages with a sentence or two. Still lots of speculation. |
