New monofin!
This might be of interest only to Fred, but I did just get my new monofin and had to a chance to try it out in Devil's lake today.
I had a company in Estoina( Specialfins.com) make me a custom monofin with full-foot fin pockets on it, just like a real pair of freediving fins! I was able to wear it for over 2 1/2 hours without any pain at all. ;D THat's a big improvement over my old monofin, like the one Fred has, which would KILL my feet after only 20 minutes. The blade is also angled which helps to improve my kick quite a bit. Actually, it's not so much a kick as an undulation. I picked this comapny after my regular freedivng buddy, Ted, picked up a new pair of bi-fins from them. These are some of the best hand-crafted fins that I have ever seen! People can argue all they want about how well they think their split fins work, but NOTHING can compare to a good freediving fin when it comes to moving through the water- especially against current. As a matter of fact, two top tech divers use freediving fins with their drysuits- Oliver Isler and Billy Deans. Plus, Tom Mount uses freediving fins for many of his warm water tech dives. The company can also customize the fins with your name and any flag, or other logo ( for you dive stores out there), that you want. Here's a shot of it. jon
