well, first off, I'd start with full foot pockets... the easiest way would be to start with a footpocket like the OMER, that has interchangeable blades.. that way you could test your designs easily. Cressi footpockets look like they might be easily modified to exchange the blades too. I thought several years ago about doing exactly this.. just getting lazier in my older age.
