Re: Shipwreck discovery?
DULUTH â What could be an uncharted shipwreck has been found in the waters of Lake Superior near Duluth.
Ice anglers spotted the wreckage off of Duluth's Park Point. The wreck sits about 150 feet off the shoreline in water ten feet deep, and can be seen through the ten inches of ice. It's not clear if it's an uncharted wreck or a documented wreck that was moved by currents. Or it's possible that low water levels on Lake Superior made the wreck easier to see. Underwater photos show the outline of a large wooden vessel and a driveshaft. Director Thom Holden of the Lake Superior Maritime Visitors Center in Duluth says he knows of no wreck in that area.
