It all depends on the lake, the shallower it is, the more likely it is to already have an inch or more of ice already on it. As far as Louise goes, it probably has a 1/2 in. or more because of the surrounding mine hills, which protects it from wind. Because it restricts so much wind, the lack of movement on the surface of the water will tend to make a lake similar to that ice over faster than most others.
So if you're looking for an unfrozen lake to dive, then the best luck would be to go with a larger, deeper, and windier lake, like Portsmouth (and the list goes on). Just some helpful hints to consider, no matter the area. Raj |
