Hey Max, dont take it personal
I donât believe in "shooting the messenger" So donât take it personal.
Know I'm just shooting from memory here. There are a few instructors that could set me straight. I donât think everybody knows what the "scuba diver cert" is. If I remember right, that cert. is given in what is commonly called a "resort course" there is an expiration of the card. I think some of the dives can count toward OW 1 or 2. It also states that the diver cannot dive under any circumstance without an instructor. If the instructor ignores standards is his ass, not PADI's. I did not read the article in its entirety, just skimmed through it. However in the 1st few paragraphs the author stated the "Divemaster". Was he just misusing the term or was the DM really an instructor. Lots of grey area here. I have been a witness to the "scuba diver" class a couple of times. The 1st was in Mexico. I just listened in on the class. Just a 1-2 hour presentation of the basics and some pool work. She did a pretty good job. The 2nd was in Jamaica last year. The instructors there did a truly outstanding job. There were 6 people from our group attending. So we were there from start to finish. I still applaud those two instructors for the job they did. If anybody is interested I would dig up there names and website if anybody was going to Jamaica. It is the age-old story; good education depends on the instructor and the reception of the student. This will be a good post However I think the person was off base slamming just PADI on this. I think all agencies have this in some form. I'm not a huge fan of PADI, for reasons other than their training. The fact of the matter is, if it were not for PADI diving training might still be the boot camp older divers talk about. That being said, we probably would not have had the avantage of more divers to advance the sport. I would like to say more, but I have to pack. Keys here I come. CJ |
