Ear problems

I was just diving at Wazee last week.  Did 5 dives with the deepest being 60 feet.  No out of control ascents or anything out of the ordinary at all.  Anyway, on the way home Sunday night my right ear started getting sore.  By the next day both ears were hurting and the pain was radiating down my jaws.  By the next day I could hardly stand the pain.  Went to the Dr. and he said I had a double middle ear infection.  I'm 34 and haven;t had an ear infection since I was 6.  Anybody ever hear of getting an ear infection from diving in Lakes or other areas.  If so, is there anything you can do to prevent it?  Thanks for any input anyone may have
