Lake Calhoun beach reopens Star Tribune August 4, 2005 CALHOUN0804 The north beach at Lake Calhoun reopened today, a day after a pollution alert forced its temporary closure, according to the Minneapolis Parks and Recreation Board. The beach was closed after routine tests on Monday found elevated levels of E. coli bacteria, which can cause intestinal illness. Today, the park board reported the results of follow-up testing that showed the E. coli levels, which had exceeded federal guidelines, returned to safe levels as of Tuesday. No cases of illness have been reported, according to Sara Aplikowski, water resources coordinator. Maura Lerner |
