Re:Square and other lake conditions
Ok, so that pretty much keeps me out of the water until May. Sad No dry suit.

Hmm, very tempting. Any secrets I need to know about using a dry suit before I actually try one? heh. I figured I'd wait until May when I take AOW to try a drysuit, but I suppose, it wouldn't hurt to try one now. heh.

Re:Square and other lake conditions
Chad, drysuits are definately the way to go. I'd recommend taking the class or if you don't want to spend the money on the class maybe ask a fellow drysuit diver to take you out to the platforms at Square or something for some tips and to run you through the inverted tuck and roll recovery drill. That's probably the most important thing to have down before you start venturing too deep in the drysuit. I didn't take an official drysuit course myself but did learn the drills and tips from some fellow drysuit divers. It took me maybe 10 dives to get to feeling pretty comfortable diving in the drysuit.

Re:Square and other lake conditions
ooh, secrets! yes, many many secrets.
nah.
actually, there are quite a few things to know and practice.
a class would be a good start.

the main thing is knowing how to prevent inversion and how
to handle one if it does occur.

ask Jean about the time i practiced an inversion in Square Lake
on a platform. very humbling and a fine time to use the finger spool
and crotch ring. i must say that a good buddy paramount to
successful diving.

Re:Square and other lake conditions
Maybe I can talk you, Jean and any other drysuit divers into showing me the ropes (so to speak) in a couple weeks.
