Re:What's Wrong with My Ears?
I've heard hair causes major problems as well, that's why I shaved my moustache off a couple of years ago.. I got tired of filling the stache with silicon grease to stop the leaks...

There is also an issue with these ear muff masks if you ever need to dive with a hood.

If you go DAN's website ( diversalertnetwork.org ) and scroll down to "Diving Medicine: Frequntly asked questions " they have a lot of information about ear problems. Also, if you are a Dan member or not you can call DAN and speak to a medical consultant about your ear problems. They are very knowledgeable.
I did this before I saw my regular doctor and they went out of their way to help me. I was very impressed.
When I went to my doctor, I had to play the insurance game of going to the Primary provider which was a Family Doctor and didnt know much about ear problems, who then had to refer me to the ENT specialist. ( Ear,Nose,Throat) So if you can, go directly to an ENT doctor.
GO DIVING!

There is also a unit made that is incorporated into a hood. Its called the Scuba Queen, made by GMC (Global Manufacturing Corp). Just go to their website to check it out. Its not pretty but I do know divers using them and they work well.

The instructions on the webpage say to attach the end of the hose to the second stage regulator but I have also seen people attach it to their mask just like the ProEar 2000. Either one would work, it just depends on which one you would rather drill a hole in.

Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner. I've been out of town. I've got medium length hair around my ears (unfortunately none on top of my head). I've tried the mask myself and was surprised to find that it didn't seem to leak around the ears. I did try to brush as much hair as possible out of the way, but I'm sure there was still a lot of it under the seal. It didn't seem to be a problem.

Re:What's Wrong with My Ears?
I too am plagued with ear problems - from ear wax, blown ear-drum :o this early fall, to mild infections. This year alone I've been to the 'Doctor' six times for ear related problems! The ear wax is easy to clean, the ruptured ear drum took a month to heal, and well, the mild ear infections still bothered me until last week.

I recently purchased (about $8) a pair of Doc's Pro Plugs (saw an ad in 'Alert Diver' - July/Aug 03 issue). I did six dives this past weekend, from 60 fw - 130 fw, and had absoluted no problems afterwards! I'll be diving again this weekend, I'll let you know if they 'still work'.

If you try a pair, make sure it is the type for divers - Doc's also makes non-diver plugs that may interfere with equalizing.

Good luck.
