Re:Dive kayaks

JoelW , Is it hard finding other divers to buddy up with who have dive kayaks?
I'm definately interested in getting one of these dive Kayaks, but I didnt want to go alone all the time. I just started looking at them this year. They are great for accessing those remote areas.
Maybe a Dive Buddy list on this site for those people interested would be appropriate.

Re:Dive kayaks
Dan,

Getting in and out of mine is not much of a problem given how low it sits to the water and that I sit on top of it as opposed to sitting in it like most kayaks.

Look under Fish'n'Dive.

I know that there are two others in town who bought the above kayak in the past two years but I have yet to come across them to see if they are doing any diving with them.

Another way to go about this may be to see if anyone wants to canoe or kayak to a spot on the shore, beach the boats and then shore dive from there. That would open up a lot of places and not require that everyone have a dive kayak. I wouldn't mind doing Big Carnelian over by Square that way. paddle from the landing past the little island and tie off or anchor on the East or West shore.

Re:Dive kayaks
Lake Michigan was so rough that all of the dive charters got cancelled.

That means it was time to get out the dive kayaks and hit the surf!

He did manage to get up and surf quite a few waves by the end of the day.

Re:Dive kayaks
It turned out to be a very fun day even if we couldn't dive.

Re:Dive kayaks
The weather forcast called for 8'-10' waves out on the lake. I don't think that they were that big, maybe 5'-6' waves.

The surf is something different. Sometimes a set of really big waves would come in, usually when I was trying to get back out, and other times small sets of waves would roll in, when I was trying to surf them. Wink

It's been a while since I have dove California and I really need to work on my wave counting skills to get those "sets" right.
