got any depth goals for the summer
Well, it hasn't been like me to set any depth goals for quite a long time, but I'm thinking of at least pushing my personal best a bit. Lately, I've been really missing the pressure of the deep. I'm watching underwater videos all the time :. Time to start stretching the old rib cage as I believe that is my limiting factor down there.
It's a crazy addiction this holding your breath and going under, but I still love it. Might be looking for a spotter or two sometime mid summer or so. Probably Brainerd or Wazee. Anyone else?
Cold and dark down there huh?

Re: got any depth goals for the summer
no depth goals. not a deep diver. got fish goals. some of the things id like to see are an underground cave system(freediving)..southern minnesota has this, not sure if it is doable. you also need a permit to go in. ..
would like to visit lake okoboji in northern Iowa, super clear water and has muskies. as allways im still hopefull to find a clear water stream or creek that empties into either the red river of north, or either mississippi or minnesota river. im planing on brining a shallow water rig and exploring some of the shallow creeks up by the brainerd area. so i miight be in for a brainerd deal..

Quote:as allways im still hopefull to find a clear water stream or creek that empties into either the red river of north, or either mississippi or minnesota river. Have you tried the Otter Tail? It starts northeast of Detroit Lakes and joins the Bois De Sioux in Wahpeton to become the Red. There are many places where the fish congregate, particularially below the old mills. Another is the Pelican River. It also starts north of DL and joins the Ottertail near Fergus Falls. You won't set any depth records on them. The deepest is probably about 80 or 90 feet on a couple of lakes they flow through.

*****THANK YOU!!!!****** that is the tip Ive been waiting for! i will study this system. and will put it on my list of exploration spots this year! would you happen to know if either of these have the tannic stained waters, or are they more clear? also if you happen to know of any good public access points that are close to fishy spots let me know. thanks

Re: got any depth goals for the summer
Fairly clear in most places. Phelps Mill north of Underwood is usually chock full of fish in the early spring. Also just downstream from Otter Tail Lake. I've even seen sturgeon there. Flow is pretty fast though. The only place i've dove on the Pelican River itself is at Dunvilla, north of Pelican Rapids. There was a small mill dam there, but I think they've changed that a lot since those days back in the '80s.
Speaking of tannin, the Pomme de Terre river starts just south of Fergus Falls and meanders down to the Minnesota. That was pretty tannic when I checked it out. It's also only about a foot deep on this (Fergus) end. Freediver, have you tried Manypoint or Rose by Vergas for depth?

Nope.. I haven't been in either of those. Have to do some checking. Maybe they're good shortly after ice off? Fred
