Aquarium Dives
I noticed that you can dive in Aquariums such as Underwater Adventures in the MoA or Great Lakes Aquarium in Duluth. These sound like a lot of fun and a very interesting experience. Has anyone ever done these?
I'm curious if they are considered a logged diver, or is it too "touristy"? |

Re: Aquarium Dives
If it's a choice between not getting to dive all winter, or diving in an aquarium, go for it. But for now....The pool's open, lets go dive! ;D
My name is Lisa and I'm a SCUBAholic. It's been toooo long since my last dive!

Re: Aquarium Dives
Someone else asked about the Mall of America dives in June. There is a short thread under local diving topics. Sorry I couldn't figure out how to include a link to the previous thread. It seems to me that me that there were some other previous threads on both the MOA and the Duluth aquarium, but I don't remember when or where. I second Diver Queen's comment - hit the open water and if you want to dive the aquarium, then save that for the off season...........or take an ice diving class!

Re: Aquarium Dives
We offered a special trip to the MOA in April and no bites on it. It it is $185 per person. They need a minimum of 3 people to run it.
We can set it up for you through the store if we get 4 divers. I have more details if you are interested.

Re: Aquarium Dives
Two of us dove the Duluth Aquarium this weekend - while 15,000 other folks were waiting in line to see the tall ships - it was a gas!
Jay at the Aquarium is a great guy and is very into his work. We dove two of their tanks, down to 26', and fed fish in front of crowds of visitors. My wife and kids were watching and really enjoyed it. If you've never had a 4' sturgeon suck on your head or stick it's mouth on your face mask, this is your opportunity! In addition to the dive, you get a behind the scenes tour ahead of your dive, a cool t-shirt, and a patch. Go warm - one tank was 52 degrees and the other about 65. $79 if you use your gear - $99 if you use theirs. Their tanks either way. Plan 3 hours, with about 1 hour in the water. Call ahead to schedule it. |

Re: Aquarium Dives
79/99 for the Duluth experience vs. MOA is much more palatable. $185 in my opinion is way to much. Ryan S. of GUDC fame used to work there. I don't know if he still does. I don't think so because I think I saw his position advertised.

Re: Aquarium Dives
Yep on the warm tank sturgeon feeding. Just one of them wouldn't eat - a very light colored 3 - 4 footer. All others ate voraciously.

Re: Aquarium Dives
Would an aquarium dive like the Great Lakes aquarium be a good "first dive" after the OW certification classes? I guess I don't want to get there and be a pain being a novice.
