wonder if the divings going.. I see it's raining all around that area and here in n.d. too.  hope the sun comes out and the rain doesn't affect the vis to much for tomorrows diving.
Cold and dark down there huh?

Re: Detroit Lakes/ Otter Tail Area Diving?
Well Spitfire and I went to Paul lake today(Friday). We got a late start, didn't get out there until 6:00 or so, and the weather was a little less then desirable, but we managed to stick it out for a little. Surface water temp. was 50* and below the thermocline(around 30ft.) was 46*. We got down to 50ft by going southeast following the drop off but our hands and fingers just couldn't take the cold(wetsuit not dry) so we had to turn around and we played around 20 ft for about a half hour. Visability was a good 20-25 feet, but it was raining and windy so I would imagine it could be even better if the weather was good. We apologize to Billtodive, since he offered to come, but since we got a late start we didn't even think we were going to dive, and also we had no other contact info for you, but we did think of you I promise. We're planning plenty of trips this summer and I'm sure we'll get back to Paul since we would like to go a little deeper there and maybe find the hole, so hopefully we can get you then.

Thanks,
Kevin

Re: Detroit Lakes/ Otter Tail Area Diving?
the vis sounds great.. I'm on my way there this afternoon and hoping that the weather clears and the rains didn't stir things up too much.. So far my plan is to hit lake six around 1:30 or 2, then seven, then paul, then possibly the ottertail river again... nothing like freediving to make the rounds easier!  Well, not really, I'm such a gear head that I end up with more junk than most scuba divers Sad

Re: Detroit Lakes/ Otter Tail Area Diving?
Just got home from a fun dive at Lake Seven (Scalp Lake)....just across the road from Lake Six.

Viz was bad, had maybe 6-8 feet.  it did get better once you got below 15 feet...but not by much.

Saw the sunken pontoon boat and the speedboat, those were neat to come across.  Saw some fish, guessing sunny's....did see a catfish not far from the boat landing about 1 1/2 foot long, just camping out in the grass/weeds.

Temp wasn't bad, surface had to be in the 60's.....had 55F down at 25'.

Overall it was a fun dive, dive number twelve in my logbook.  Smile
