Re: cdnn blasts PADI unsafe at any depth
I'm NAUI certified....That took 5 whole evenings! I stay within the "Limits" imposed by my open water "C" card! I dive with people who have MUCH more experience than I. And if I'm not comfortable with any aspect of the dive, I know when to say when! To paraphrase "Diver: Know thyself!"
My name is Lisa and I'm a SCUBAholic. It's been toooo long since my last dive!

Re: cdnn blasts PADI unsafe at any depth
This was an interesting article, as it takes PADI to task for placing its marketing concerns over diver education safety. As a new diver I have experienced both a great deal of professionalism with PADI trainers and some who acted in a more lackadaisical fashion.Â
I must agree with the statement that the dive operators in resort areas do not adhere to the recommended depth limits. With the sinking of ships for resort divers to explore who are not wreck trained, this only makes the problem worse. We need to emphasize that each of us take full responsibility for our own safety, and that all that PADI can do is provide us with the tools to do so. In that regard, I would agree with CDNN that more training, not less, is needed. |

Re: cdnn blasts PADI unsafe at any depth
I've never heard of the PADI "SCUBA diver" course. I got Open Water , then Advanced, and then started working on my specialties. I have to agree (and every instructor should be emphasizing this regardless of organization) that safety first, knowing your limitations, and confidence in your dive buddy should be determinig factors in your own personal decision making process. IMHO

Re: cdnn blasts PADI unsafe at any depth
Hi ALL,Â
After recieving a phone call from a diver who is a PADI cert. diver, I was basically accused of slamming PADI. That certainly wasn't my intention. Nor is it allowed in the SDI professionalism statement. He indicated that my SDI training is no better or worse then any other dive training. Of course I have my own opinion about training programs and that is why I have decided to go forward with the SDI Instructor program at GUDC, but to make it perfectly clear, I am in the SDI DIVEMASTER PROGRAM, AND... I AM ALSO IN THE PADI DIVEMASTER PROGRAM. THE ARTICLE doesn't make me happy either. SO please don't be crabby at me because some senior editorial staff writer for the worlds largest online diver free subscription service decided to blast PADI. All I did was post it before one of you other divers would have. (most likely) Anyway  NO offense intended. However, you have heard me say it many times on this board about TRAINING.......   CONTINUE TRAINING at whatever agency you want. It would be interesting to know what percentages of cert divers in each of the respective agencies continue on with further training.  Maybe one of the great moderators can get a survey going from the local divers.  Something along the lines of  2 years after certification, how many specialty course have been taken etc. LOVE YA ALL MAXFACTOR   |

Re: cdnn blasts PADI unsafe at any depth
cdnn is not a great place for truthful information. Read through these threads.
I have seen more but can't find it now. I use to read their site but won't give them the web traffic anymore. |

Hey Max, dont take it personal
I donât believe in "shooting the messenger" So donât take it personal.
Know I'm just shooting from memory here. There are a few instructors that could set me straight. I donât think everybody knows what the "scuba diver cert" is. If I remember right, that cert. is given in what is commonly called a "resort course" there is an expiration of the card. I think some of the dives can count toward OW 1 or 2. It also states that the diver cannot dive under any circumstance without an instructor. If the instructor ignores standards is his ass, not PADI's. I did not read the article in its entirety, just skimmed through it. However in the 1st few paragraphs the author stated the "Divemaster". Was he just misusing the term or was the DM really an instructor. Lots of grey area here. I have been a witness to the "scuba diver" class a couple of times. The 1st was in Mexico. I just listened in on the class. Just a 1-2 hour presentation of the basics and some pool work. She did a pretty good job. The 2nd was in Jamaica last year. The instructors there did a truly outstanding job. There were 6 people from our group attending. So we were there from start to finish. I still applaud those two instructors for the job they did. If anybody is interested I would dig up there names and website if anybody was going to Jamaica. It is the age-old story; good education depends on the instructor and the reception of the student. This will be a good post However I think the person was off base slamming just PADI on this. I think all agencies have this in some form. I'm not a huge fan of PADI, for reasons other than their training. The fact of the matter is, if it were not for PADI diving training might still be the boot camp older divers talk about. That being said, we probably would not have had the avantage of more divers to advance the sport. I would like to say more, but I have to pack. Keys here I come. CJ |

However, while I don't necessarily agree with your statement about they're slant on stories, I have always used them for any manufacturer recalls, and have found the cdnn to have high quality and articles of interest. I personally think its one of the best free sites with CURRENT EVENTS IN THE INDUSTRY. later gater. Re: cdnn blasts PADI unsafe at any depth
actually, if you go to the decostop and search cdnn, you'll; find lots. DIVING INDUSTRY WARNING CDNN Cyber Diver News Network Industry News website Exposed as thieves A site set up to Expose CDNN cyber diver news network for what they really are web page link click here -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In 2005 a website known as CDNN aka cyber diver news network stole images from Leigh Bishops deepimage photography website without prior permission. Leigh Bishop & Deep Image staff tried to contact them without any success of reply. As a result of informing cyber diver news network of their copyright infringement the editors of CDNN chose not to apologise but to begin a hate campaign against deepimage, Leigh Bishop and his friends. To date CDNN has no fixed address and have no means of contact. CDNN reporters remain hidden behind the internet. CDNN move from host to host every time they are removed from their current server through continuous complaints and legal matters. Still to this day the CDNN cyber diver news network tarnish well respected photographer and dive industry lecturer Leigh Bishop as a criminal. Leigh Bishop was contacted by a group of people that named themselves as the anti CDNN alliance, these people also turned out to be past victims of CDNN internet abuse. We are reliably informed the anti CDNN alliance has exposed CDNN as known spammers, copyright infingers & serial photograph thieves to the diving industry. Deepimage can vouch for the fact that CDNN are photograph thieves and will crop copyright notices from your images, deepimage cannot comment if they are spammers or not but the advice we are given is refer from surfing their site to avoid spy ware and do not give them your mailing address. Evidence of spamming by CDNN can be sourced on this link >> click here We thought the character defamation attacks by cyber diver news network were personal now we have discovered they have taken photographs and articles from dozens and dozens of professional people around the world without permission! We were not alone! While CDNN continue to write false and outrageous statements about UK based photographer Leigh Bishop & well known US photographer / author Brad Sheard among others across their web pages deepimage photography website (where images have been stolen from) will remain as a professional body and refrains from lowering its standard to that of the cyber diver news network. Therefore we will not attack those who attack us in the same derogative manner but instead tell the truth as it is. This matter is now in the hands of our legal team who are collating relevant evidence. The Anti CDNN alliance link that exposes CDNN cyber diver news network for what they really are is here link click here If you have been a victim of the CDNN webpages like deepimage the guys at the alliance are waiting for your email, they listened to our story we are sure they will listen to yours. All they asked us was for the truth and to add their web page link click here We are sorry that we have to result in publishing information about reporters in the dive industry that can only be categorized as pathetic. |
