Divers recover body of teen in Lake Nokomis

The body of a 17-year-old boy who disappeared while jumping off the Cedar Avenue bridge over Lake Nokomis in south Minneapolis was recovered this morning.

Divers from the Hennepin County Water Patrol found the boy's body after a search that began just after midnight, KSTP-TV reported.

A fisherman had spotted the boy jumping off the bridge with two teen girls, the station said.

Officers from the Minneapolis Police Department, the Minneapolis Park Police and the water patrol had joined in the search.

A female family member told the station the boy didn't know how to swim; she said didn't understand why he would be jumping off the bridge at that hour. The boy reportedly was from Chicago, and was visiting relatives in the Twin Cities.
