Re:fahrenheit 9/11
You might be talking about this:

"The following statement was submitted to the Minneapolis Star Tribune on June 3, but it was not printed in their article on June 4. Here is what was given to the paper in response to statements made by Rep. Mark Kennedy (R-Minn):

A spokesperson for Fahrenheit 9/11 released the entire transcript of the exchange between Michael Moore and Rep. Mark Kennedy (see below). None of this exchange is included in the film. No statements by Rep. Kennedy are in the film. There was no editing of his remarks and Congressman Kennedy will remain in the film.

In the interview Mr. Moore asks if the Congressman will pass out recruitment brochures to other members of Congress to try to get their kids to enlist in the army and go to Iraq. Congressman agrees to do this, saying, ½d be happy to. Especially those who voted for the war.

Farhenheit 9/11's spokesperson said, "We would like to ask the Congressman if he spoke to members of Congress as he agreed to do, especially those who voted for the war, to sign up their kids to go to Iraq? We would like to know what Members of Congress he has spoken to by name and what did they say?

"We anxiously await his response and sincerely hope he did not lead us on, saying he would be happy to hand out recruitment brochures to Members of Congress who voted for the war so as to get their children to enlist, and then not do so."

Transcript of Interview with Rep. Mark Kennedy.

CONGRESSMAN KENNEDY How are you doing?

MM: I'm trying to get members of congress to get their kids to enlist in the army and go over to Iraq. Is there any way you could help me with that?

CONGRESSMAN KENNEDY: How would I help you?

MM: Pass it out to other members of congress.

CONGRESSMAN KENNEDY: I'd be happy to. Especially those who voted for the war.

CONGRESSMAN KENNEDY: I have a nephew on his way to Afghanistan.

MM: Because there is only one member who has a kid over there in Iraq. This is Corporal Henderson, he is helping me out here.

CONGRESSMAN KENNEDY: How are you, good to see you.

MM: There it is, it's just a basic recruitment thing. Encourage especially those who were in favor of the war to send their kids. I appreciate it.

CONGRESSMAN KENNEDY: Okay, bye."

BTW: I believe that the Bush twins are now old enough to fight- but I guess they are spending their summer back packing across Europe instead. Wink

Now, if we want to talk about spin and half-truths I believe that Fox news has that covered pretty well.

As They say on the DAILY SHOW: "We didn't want FOX to be the only fake news broadcast on the air". One 2 hour movie vs. 24/7 Neo-Con spin, and yet it's enough to get the right wingers talking about bodily harm.

According to this morning's polls it's still 45% Kerry vs. 43% Bush with much of the swing vote in the Nader camp, who are pretty safe to say 'liberals'.

The country is pretty evenly divided on this and no side looks to be budging- which is my way of saying that I don't expect to convert ANY of you, but just want to make sure that you know that you won't be converting me either, or the other half of the country who happen to agree with me.

Now, back to flaming me. 8)

Jon, I wasn't refering to that exchange but it is interesting. Read this part again and think about the contradiction:

"None of this exchange is included in the film. No statements by Rep. Kennedy are in the film. There was no editing of his remarks and Congressman Kennedy will remain in the film."

Re:fahrenheit 9/11
Do any of you who support Moore and his movies really think he does it because he cares about you and the rest of us? He only does this to make money by doing the only thing he knows. He does not give a rat's "not a very nice person" about any one but himself.

Compared to Bush? YOU BET! Check out his website, he has done more than a few fundraisers and has many links attached to his site to help out the soldiers.

Now, war aside, my two most important topics that I vote upon are education and the environment- Bush’s record is horrible on both. I would never vote for him on those two issues alone. Interesting how Bush pretends to support both, but then cuts the funding and opens up the loops holes for polluters. It was even in the local paper yesterday- about the Mercury poisoning- which is a big deal to me since I spend a fair amount of time spear fishing- and this is a 'diving' forum.

As far as who he protects, just look at the new Medicare law that totally pads the pockets of drug companies at our expense. When it comes to corporate corruption is it any wonder that Martha gets convicted while nothing has happened to the Enron boys yet- but they were his single largest campaign contributor last time. We don’t even need to get into the no-bid Halliburton contracts that overcharged us by 60 million. Social Security will be defunct in a few years thanks to his billionaire tax cuts. Hmmmm, who do I think is working for my best interest........ Wink

Now maybe I’m wrong and most of you are billionaire’s, but for those of us who aren’t, I would easily say the Michael Moore has more of my interests in mind than Bush does.

As I mentioned before, I don’t imagine that any of this will change any of your minds, just as you silly photos won’t change mind.

BTW: Here’s one that I found funny:

Re:fahrenheit 9/11
Jon, the picture you attached is funny. I think you are letting emotion cloud your logic.

The government does support a certain amount of "clear cutting" in forests. Many environmentalist are totally against the practice. But then the environmentalists wonder why California suffers tremendous fires every year. Native americans understood the benefits of thinning forests centuries ago.

Check your facts. Social Security will not be defunct until mid 2020's. And a recent GAO report suggests that it may be fine until 2040's. Social Security is a sham. The fact is that almost every American would stop contributing if given the option. It is a terrible place to invest money. It was built as the ultimate pyramid scheme.

If you really think that high drug prices are simply due to fat cat drug companies you are drinking too much coolaid. Talk to some medical practitioners about the cost of malpractice insurance. Your trial lawyer buddies have something to do with that. You want drug companies to perform years of research & development, trials, marketing, and production. Then one person has a problem and we sue the drug company into the ground. That sounds fair. Let the drug companies assume all the risk without the rewards. Here's an idea. Let's let the government control drug prices so that they stay artificially low. As we all know, heavy regulation encourages growth and competition. Wink

Re:fahrenheit 9/11
Actually some of our best friends are doctors and a few of them are also drug reps. They all admit ot huge profits by the drug companies and the 'research' that they do is a sham- 90% is goverment funded and IF something looks promising the drug companies pick up the last 10%- which really just comes down to production and marketing costs.

I find it interesting that we can export jobs all over, and then buy back the products cheaper, but not meds. The new law also blocked collective bargining to get cheaper prices- thousands of people quit AARP over this whole issue.

As far as what our friends think who pracitce medicine, all have regreted going into it as they say HMO's, and not trial lawyers, are ruining it as far as being able to give proper patient care.

The picture I attached was meant to be funny and is about as realistic as the Michael Moore one that someone else posted. The Mercury rules that I posted are true and is a huge problem. It is now estiimated that every lake in Wisconsin, that's about 15,000 of them( twice as many as your fair state) have mercury posioning.

Re:fahrenheit 9/11
Jon,
I could care less about most of this but Minnesota has 11842 lakes over 10 acres. wisconson starts counting at 1 acre they only list 6,044 lakes because most of the rest are less then 2 acres (not a lake a pond). So Minnesota hsa more usable lakes and thats what realy matters ;D

Re:fahrenheit 9/11
Just doube checked your idea with my dive buddy, who is not on a limnologist for the UW but used to work for the DNR in water mangament.

His response was that your just screwing with numbers to try and skew the data. Wisconsin has close to 15,000 lakes as described by navigable waterways. He also said that Wisconsin also wins, hands down, in total water volume becasue of Lake Winebago. Add to the list Lake Michigan and Lake Superior and you go voer the limit. He did mention that Minessota does have around 10,000, as it says on your lisence plates, but still not as many as Wisconsin.

I tried to get him to post on here, but this is his busy season for data collection.
