ohhh man, nothing like 6 hrs in the water
what a great day.. kinda lousy vis but I saw a TON of big walleyes.. started out at about 10:00 this a.m. and finished up at 4.  tagged a few big carp too.. dang it was fun..

It is soooooo relaxing under the water, just floating, well, floating at about -10' to -20' anyway.  o.k., maybe sinking more than floating when I was at 20'. absolutely no noise.. wait, I take that back.. sometimes I could hear my wetsuit sqeak a little when I turned my head, and I wore a bit too thin of socks so if I was motoring my fins would sqeak just a bit, but I didn't do too much motoring because I was spearfishing all day.  I did hear the "bang" of a few fish when I spooked them and they bolted.. but other than that, pretty peaceful.  fine, an occasional boat too, but not many, in fact, very few.

I have never gotten into the middle of so many big walleyes.. I mean, I've been around walleyes, and lots of them, some big ones too, but almost every one of these were huge..... and tame.. I even bumped 2 of of them with my speartip to get them moving.  They'd be just shadows coming outta the murk and I'd think "Carp!".. but no, just huge walleyes.  what fun!

I just may have to take up line fishing along with this snorkeling hobby.. just go find the fish, climb back into the boat and fish..  ohhh, it was fighting temptation not to stick a walleye today... but, being sunday and all...

the next time I do this, the video camera is coming along for sure.. sorry, no pics, no vids.. just good memories.
Cold and dark down there huh?

Sounds like an awesome run. That's one thing about skin diving, air is unlimited. What lake did you find so many big walleye? Don't worry I'm not scouting if for fishing, we get plenty of that with lake of the woods, but am just curious if it's known for fishing or not.
What kind of suit are you using? I was skin diving with a 3mm half suit with hood this past weekend, and around 20 feet it really started to cool down. Sounds like you have your weight right when you're sinking at 20 feet.

I was wearing a full 3mm w/hood, lined inside and smooth out.  the smooth out causes the squeeking.

You know, I can't really say if the lake is known as a walleye lake or not..I don't follow the fishing circles.  There were fisherman there, but I don't know if they were catching anything.. they must have at sometime or another since they were not too far from where we came across the walleye.
