Freshwater eels? help me

the final frontieer of minnesota fish fanatic. i have seen lamprey, sturgeon, paddelfish, and gar which were to me somewhat exotic fish. I now direly would like to view/catch/hold interact with a freshwater eel. they are very rare in minnesota fishing wise. i know of two people who have caught them. they only occure in st.croix river below stillwater. mainly in the deeper streach. and the missisisppi river. has anyone had any experience or suggestions how or were or tips. thanks
