Man missing after wading into Lake Minnetonka

A 19-year-old man who waded into Lake Minnetonka to retrieve a soccer ball Wednesday night was not able to make it back to shore and disappeared in the lake.

Witnesses said they tried to help him but he slipped from their grip.

The Hennepin County Sheriff's Office Water Patrol started searching for him after someone called for help shortly after 7 p.m. No sign of the man was found as of late Wednesday night.

The man disappeared in Excelsior Bay near the Excelsior city docks, which are near the intersection of Lake and Water Streets in Excelsior.

The man's identity was not immediately available.
