Re: Best cold water diving
You don't have to be young for that Grumpie! just willing.
I did a long diving weekend on Quadra Island (north of Nanaimo - flew in to Campbell River from Seattle and took ferry to QI) a number of years ago and I've been wanting to go back ever since! unfortunately, the airfare hasn't done a repeat of the bargain I got the first time. If anyone is interested in seeing more pics, I can try to remember to dig out my files from the trip and put them on the laptop (and then remember to bring it with me for the diving and happy hour Sunday) we had water temps around 44F, and I was absolutely stunned at the amount of colors. reds, pinks, yellows and oranges all over everything - tons of life. they have also sunk lots of old navy vessels in various spots in Puget Sound - at the moment, I can't remember which one we dove - the Yukon maybe? it's a great place to dive if you don't mind the cool water. you pretty much dive at the changing of the tide, so you drop in and go with it in one direction, then play around at slack for a little while, then ride it back the other way to the boat and get out before it really gets ripping - almost as much fun as Coz!
Some people are like Slinkeys - not much good for anything, but they bring a smile to your face when you push them down the stairs!

Re: Best cold water diving
A shop that I dove with in Mexico a few years ago had a divemaster working there that was from Scotland. She was telling us all about the wrecks in Scotland including the famous mis-communication of Admiral Reuter "scuttle the fleet" instead of "subtle defeat". She said some of the wrecks were being raised up for the metal. That is the best cold water I have been hearing about. It's tough to think about it in December, but some day.........
