anyone goto the GLSPS show and attend the spearfishing lecture?
i wanted to go but couldn't.I'm curious if i missed any interesting points of topic.

I did pick up new DNR reg book, and it is very clear that NO shot fish shall be left on the shore.(always was the law)

I watched the whole thing.  It was pretty cool, lots of video of shooting walleye.  Its like hunting also.  Like anything else people probably think its cheating ha, ya right.  Imagine shooting a big fish and it taking off on you?

There are several Bowfisherman that take out carp on Waconia.  Instead of tossing the fish in the trash, they donate them to certain hog farmers who grind them up and feed the pigs.  Restaurants will also take all your table scraps and put them in a bucket to be donated to the hogs.  MMMMMMM..........bacon.....

and after carefull study of the current DNR regs. in minnesota with fishing lisc it is fully legal to sell roughfish with only regular fishing liscense. i know some smaller ethnic food markets will buy carp. also i have in the past known of mink farmers who would pay for carp and sucker. all in all its not alot. $.10-$.30 a pound. but at 5-20lbs a fish, it adds up quick. problem is you start thinking scalability. if i can make $5 all we need to do is bring in 400lbs of carp and we got a small buisness. doesnt work that way. many places can only handle so much rough fish. 20-40lbs and that is it. so still five bucks is five bucks. if its on the way or not far from me sure. the mink and pork farmers are different i know they will take all you can give them.

i would like to see the Michigan and superior boarder waters open up to underwater spearfishing. but i would have to agree with the publics paranoia. skin divers would likely get the best of these reefs. often the biggest salmon and trout just don't bite easily, were as a skin diver would quietly approach and pick out that one monster. it would be a circus of freedivers all trying to out do the next clown. I still would like to see the laws open up to the sport.

As with anything tht is a little out of the mainstream-  Attitudes relax with popularity.  Talk to a city hall about spearing or bowfishing and instantly their mindset is tha 10 people will die every time you hit the water to do these activities.  The more pressure they get, the more they are forced to investigate their concerns and find that they are overreaching.  Some examples that come to mind:

Nitrox/ certain agencies participating/not participating- in the early years

Diving W/O a permit in Minneapolis lakes now legal.

Bowfishing/ Coyote hunting is legal after dark now(best times to get em)

Old laws hold a lot of people up.  If you want something- keep raising hell!
