Dec. 4th fun dives are fast approaching!
Just a reminder that we'll be up diving and playing paintball December 4th weekend. Meet at the Mariner Motel in Silver Bay on Saturday at noon for paint ball (please call the shop to sign up), we'll have a bon fire at Split Rock campground on Saturday evening, and we'll be diving around 11am at the Madeira on Sunday.

Hope to see you out there!

Re:Dec. 4th fun dive

The paintball was scrapped due to lack of interest.
I think Rich and Stacy did some shopping in Two Harbors, while I went out and did some hiking at Tettegouch State Park.

The camp fire started at about 8:30pm, and was fun. There were 5 of us at the campfire, and 1 3/4 cases of beer were finished. So a good time was had by all. Lots of good stories. We left at about 1:30 am.

The weather Sunday was not quite as balmy as Sat afternoon. We woke up to 3 degree temperatures in Silver Bay. We met at the Madeira parking lot just before 11 am, where there were already 4 divers in the water from another group. The temp had raised up to 14 by the time we hit the water.
The trail to the water was barely snow covered, and not a problem for walking, with just a little ice on the rocks at the bottom of the steps.

The lake was faily calm, with just a slight surge. My computer recorded a low temperature of 38. There were 8 divers. I'm VERY bad with names, but we had
Rich & Stacy, Russ & Brian, two divers doing their first dive on the Madeira and John (don't know last name).

We had about 60 ft vis just out from shore, and about 40 ft over at the wreck. We had a nice 45 minute dive, circling the stern, and heading out to the pilot house.

A very nice dive for December!

And how can you forget about the fun of taking off your dry suit and have it stand up on its own b/c it freezes on the way up the hill!!

Check out the picture of us few proud winter fun divers on our website under fun dives. Rich and Stacy were there along w/ Jeff Leech, Brian and Russ Miles, John Connelly, Jay Schmidt and Mike Williams.

I think we'll be planning another run up to the Madeira late February for another great winter dive!
