DUMB QUESTION: how to safely remove mold from a silicon mask skirt? - chrisw - 01-20-2004 How do i safely remove mold from a silicon mask skirt? I have been told two rememdies: 1) vinegar 2) baking soda Any other suggestions? Re:DUMB QUESTION: how to safely remove mold from a silicon mask skirt? - tcjtn0 - 01-20-2004 Ah , how about the answer the Wedsday night crew would give? Just Spit In IT !!!! That fixes all mask ailments right? Sorry , couldnt resist! I like the vinegar idea myself. Jean Re:DUMB QUESTION: how to safely remove mold from a silicon mask skirt? - willadams67 - 01-20-2004 Once you get your equipment clean, as it should be. Spray silicone spray on it. It will protect your equipment. Mold shouldn't be an issue if you are properly cleaning your equipment. Re:DUMB QUESTION: how to safely remove mold from a silicon mask skirt? - chrisw - 01-20-2004 oh i know i was a bad bad diver! :-X <therefore i am not a candidate for rebreather diving > Re:DUMB QUESTION: how to safely remove mold from a silicon mask skirt? - tcjtn0 - 01-20-2004 No Chris , you are not a bad diver. I know some of us (including myself) don't keep some of our gear in pristine condition. It's human nature. And you asked how to get mold out of your mask , not how to store your equipement! Hey , these things happen to the best of us... Jean P.S. Yep , even pristine divers like me (hack...choke...snort...blachhhhhhhh....) ya right... Re:DUMB QUESTION: how to safely remove mold from a silicon mask skirt? - LKunze - 01-20-2004 Dishwashing soap and hot water would be fine too. Just rinse it thoroughly after you are done. BTW Chris...Did you remember to clean the inside of your wing out? If that's had any lake water sitting in it for awhile it'll probably have nasty's growing in it. :o Re:DUMB QUESTION: how to safely remove mold from a silicon mask skirt? - scott - 01-20-2004 I found two methods that don't work. I found a mask at the bottom of a lake once and it was really nasty. Since it was a cheap mask and I was lazy, I didn't want to put much effort into cleaning it. I tried running it through the dishwasher and the washing machine, but neither worked. Re:DUMB QUESTION: how to safely remove mold from a silicon mask skirt? - mixelpix - 01-20-2004 For all you "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" Fans, Did you try Windex? Re:DUMB QUESTION: how to safely remove mold from a silicon mask skirt? - chrisw - 01-21-2004 :o OMG. NO i did not clean out my wing of scum. how does one properly clean that bad boy? <i need a vomit emoticon> Re:DUMB QUESTION: how to safely remove mold from a silicon mask skirt? - LKunze - 01-21-2004 :o OMG. NO i did not clean out my wing of scum. how does one properly clean that bad boy? <i need a vomit emoticon> Quote:Yikes!!!!!!!! :o Ok...here's what I do and it works quite well. Unscrew the rear pull dump on the wing and remove it. Then get some warm water and mix in a little Tide "HE" laundry detergent. The "HE" formula is a little more expensive than regular laundry detergent but it doesn't suds up real bad which makes rinsing much easier. Fill the wing up about a quarter to half way and either put the pull dump back on or just plug the opening with your thumb. Then shake the wing around real good. Rinse and repeat as necessary. Once cleaned I leave the pull dump off the wing so it can completely dry out inside. |
