What's Open? - ericmyers - 03-26-2010

Is there any Open Water in MN/WI right now? What's the status? (Superior, Mines, local holes, Wazee) etc?

Re: What's Open? - rcojr - 03-26-2010

I was up on Superior around Split Rock Lighthouse last weekend.
The whole area around the Madeira was wide open
No snow in the parking lot either.

Wazee should be open by next weekend.

It isn't exactly close to MN, but Lake Monona in Madison, WI is open and a few of us are diving it tomorrow.

i'd say by next weekend all minneapolis area lakes will be open... i was out walking around on the ice today at harriet and its all rotten, maybe 8" max of honeycomb that breaks easy if you jump on it.

Be sure to wear your drysuit if you are going to jump on it...We don't want Grumpie's friends to have to go to work!!!  Wink

Do we know if Square or Perch is open yet?

Re: What's Open? - DiverQueen - 04-01-2010

I haven't had a chance to look at Square, but Quarry Park in St. Cloud is mosltly open.  The dive shop still has '09 dive permits, and they are checking with the city on getting new ones for this year!

As I was walking around the pits, I could see a difference between noon and 3pm.  Lots of ice gone in that time!  ;D

My drysuit should be back the 17th.  Something should be open by then.

On the 30th Air Down There is having a fun dive and I think Northland is having an early fun dive as well.
