Turneffe Island - Belize? Yeah or nay? - Evenne - 02-20-2003

Help! Thinking seriously about setting up a pretty expensive trip to Belize (Turneffe Island Lodge). Kind of a once-in-a-lifetime thing.

Would really appreciate advice from anyone who has been there or heard about it. Is it worth the money?

Thanks,
Anxious Evenne ???

Evenne,
I wish I could tell you I've been to Turneffe Island but can't. I have been to Belize though about a half dozen times and near Turneffe. The last time we were there was after hurricane Mitch and the corals in the shallows were really wiped out. Might be a question to ask about.

We just had a group of 18 return from there last month, had a great time! The sponges and corals were excellent. Though, they did a liveaboard (best way to see Belize as it is a barrier reef) and were able to visit Turneffe, Lighthouse, and Glovers. They especially liked the walls and then playing in the shallows while off-gasing.

I guess it depends on your attitude and what you want...if you think local diving is great, you'll love most anywhere...is there such a thing as bad diving spots?
