Well I know its a dog-eat-dog world out there but I'm glad I jumped on a ship that wasn't sinking when I purchased my gear last spring. I tried to stay with the Cousteau family. I don't condone some of Michael Cousteau's treatment of animals when the camera is not rolling, but It is a good solid line of gear.

Actually J.M. Cousteau really has no direct ties to Aqua-lung any longer. His contract with them expired quite a few years ago. He's out there with his own company doing protect the ocean projects and sometimes does promoting for other dive companies on a contract basis. I know not to long ago he had a special on PBS where they went all the way out to the end of the Hawaiian chain which was quite interesting. I don't know what he does when the camera isn't rolling be he makes it look good on TV.

When I was a kid I used to idolize Jacques and wanted to be one of the divers on the Calypso. Then life got in the way and my goals changed for quite a few years. Just recently I saw a video where Jean Michael Cousteau was working with sharks and his "crew" were beating the sharks with pipes so that he could be seen as some sort of "lion tamer". I was unimpressed.
