Travel Info - SCUBA Dog - 02-25-2008 Here is some info for anyone planning a trip. I recently was in Cozumel. We flew Northwest. While it has never happened to me before, this trip they were very attentive to luggage weight. On arrival at MSP I checked my luggage outside with the sky cap. He put both checked bags on the scale and then said "You have to take one pound out of this one and four pounds out of that one." Fortunately, moving the Skittles and Starbursts to my carryon put me in compliance with the 50 pound limit. I could have paid the $25 overweight fee, but they can not do that outside, so I would have had to wait in line inside. On the way home in the Cozumel Airport, they hand searched all of our luggage. First the carry-ons, then the checked luggage. Once they search your checked luggage, you are not allowed to touch it again. They then carry it to then airline counter as you check in. The problem (that I fortunately saw someone else go through first), is then they put your bags on the scale. The folks ahead of me were overweight. They opened their suitcases to move some items to their carry-on. Once they did that they were told that they had to step out, make the adjustments and get back in line (the end of the line) and be searched again. Needless to say I paid the $26 fee to avoid that issue. |
