Madeira Dive Report (Aug-22-2007) - Qix - 08-23-2007 A small group of us dove the Madeira yesterday. For being our first time, we all thought the conditions were quite good. There were no waves or swells the entire day!!! Entry and exit was literally walk-in and walk out. It appears the lake level is down, perhaps that helped. We started with a very light wind blowing in from the lake and by afternoon there was no noticeable wind in the cove or across the wreck site. The water temp was in the 54F...57F range (via different computers). The air temp was in the mid-high 70's with lightl clouds. Our deepest dive was around 80' (no thermocline experienced). Everyone estimated visibility to easily exceed 30'. One person dove dry. One dove a 7mm farmer John and the other two dove back-zip 7mm's. The 1st dive was around 60min and the second dive was about 45min. We all thought they did a great job with the parking area, oversized bathroom, and steps down to the site. Sign-up was quite easy at the park office, taking only a few minutes to show cards and obtain the gate combo. There was only one other group who finished their dive as we arrived. Very nice people! They gave us some good pointers on the dive site and helped us get in on our 1st dive. We did find a large black flashlight with a big stainless steel clip in about 5' of water about 20 feet off the beach so we left it on the rocks if anyone is looking for it. A few pictures were taken and we'll post a link if they turned out. ps. Where are all the fish in Lake Superior??? We only saw one or two the entire day. |
