Re: Dump truck in mine - DetectorGuy - 07-03-2010 Here are some photos of the lift bag we temporarily placed on the van which is about 75' East of the dump truck. It is surprising how far it is out to these two vehicles. We took the lift bag off the van after the second dive. Re: Dump truck in mine - grumpie - 07-03-2010 How many 55 gal drums would it take to lift that van or the dump truck? Re: Dump truck in mine - DetectorGuy - 07-03-2010 Hi Grumpie, That is a trick question...very tricky. Why would I use 46 barrels to lift a 23,000 pound dump truck especially when coming from 100' deep where I would use 340 cu ft of air in lift bags for each stage of the staged lift. I would bring it up in 3 lifts of 28' each, keeping the bottom of the truck at 16' below the surface after the 3rd staged lift, until it was dragged to shore where a wrecker could hook on to it in 16' deep water. How would anyone control 46 separate drums all at the same time? To simply answer your question: 23,000# dump truck= 46 fifty five gallon drums or 340 cubic feet of air for each stage (doing it in 3 stages you would need double that amount of drums to get the job done). This was assuming the dump truck has a displacement of 29.4 cubic feet of freshwater 4,773# one ton van= 8.5 fifty five gallon drums or 62 cubic feet of air for each stage (doing it in 3 stages you would need double that amount of drums to get the job done). This was assuming the van has a displacement of 14.7 cubic feet of freshwater I am probably not exactly right, but I must be close to being right. Re: Dump truck in mine - Dragon Eye - 07-03-2010 OMG It's an Underwater Hot Air Balloon Rig!! I would so be there to see that thing come up. Maybe the commercial divers out of MSD would be up for the challenge. Re: Dump truck in mine - DetectorGuy - 07-03-2010 I think MSD has ordered bags for the dump truck, But I'm not sure. Re: Dump truck in mine - WeatherPaparazzi - 07-04-2010 My girlfriend and I went up there to dive this afternoon thinking I would see a lot of divers but nobody was there. I did not dive the trucks and stayed above the thermo to work on some other mapping and nav stuff. The DNR officer showed up after we were done and asked if I dove the wrecks. He wanted to know what the bottom looks like for the wrecking company. If the wrecks were in fact on the bottom or if their was another ledge it could fall off of and drop further into the mine. He also wanted to know how many ledges there were to bring the wrecks up and rest them on. He said that the wrecking companies he talked to were worried that if something went wrong, it could their wrecker into the pit. Re: Dump truck in mine - lahrcm - 07-04-2010 Good thing you went when you did. It was a zoo around 10:30. Hmm, I would like to see a wrecker at the bottom, placed neatly between the truck and van Re: Dump truck in mine - Hydro - 07-04-2010 i would like to get that on video underwater as it makes its descent. Re: Dump truck in mine - doug67 - 07-04-2010 I think theres room for a wrecker down there. > Re: Dump truck in mine - scubafreek864 - 07-04-2010 Did you guys/gals get everything out of the van for the city water dept.? Would have loved to join in the recovery dive, but the wife wouldn't let me go. Maybe I should have told her that our team was called out on a mutual aid call to Crosby. ;D |
