Re: Aircraft Carrier to become Artificial Reef - Chuck_Northrup - 11-11-2006 Here is a picture (possibly the first ???) of the badly damaged prop. Must have hit pretty hard when she went down. The second picture is from one of the rooms inside the spire Re: Aircraft Carrier to become Artificial Reef - Chuck_Northrup - 11-11-2006 One last parting picture, sorry it took so long to post these but scanning my slides is kind of a lengthy project : One day I'll go digital...maybe > The Oriskany carries on her weighty tradition with one last mission! Re: Aircraft Carrier to become Artificial Reef - Roger Southwick - 11-15-2006 Nice pics, Chuck! Thanks for posting them. Looks like an awesome wreck. Re: Aircraft Carrier to become Artificial Reef - Chuck_Northrup - 11-15-2006 Here are some slideshows with more pics: Surface shots: deep inside: more of the wreck: Enjoy! Any help greatly appreciated 8) Re: Aircraft Carrier to become Artificial Reef - corndogg2 - 12-08-2006 I don't remember too many fish down there. Several large barracuda, a few small grouper maybe. Not a lot of life yet as it is so new. Who are you diving with? The dive operators down there say they only get two or three good dive days down there this time of year so be prepared to be blown out. It's a long way out there too. We took a fast boat at 35mph and it still took over an hour. Re: Aircraft Carrier to become Artificial Reef - Shooter - 12-08-2006  Will be getting cave certs as well, so lots of backup dive plans. I am not sure what boat we will be on as most of the coodination is being handled by r2. In some of the pictures, especially the ones by the whale shark, I noticed lots of cobia (ling). They kind of look like a shark. mmmmm, tasty ;D Usually doesn't take long for the amberjacks to show up either. Usually, if you're diving something without your gun that's when you see the big ones ??? without the gun... - tullibee - 12-08-2006 C'mon Nate! I can't believe you haven't figured out a slingshot and dart arrangement that you could just keep in a pocket for those days! ;D Jon |
