for me its NOT about extending bottom time
in those conditions, its about being
very very conservative.
that may also be why they dont dive nitrox?

DOOD! ship the argon down there for me and i'll beg them
to let me test it.
i did, however, read that Norbert Wu and other NSF divers
didnt find that argon seemed to extend their comfort/down time
when they were diving down there.

Balanced diaphragm dry sealed regs would be the best. Apeks and Zeagle are very good choices. I use Apeks DS4TX50s (which have 3/8" ports) for backgas and a TX50 for deco (actually an old Zeagle Tech 50D) and have found them to be excellent. You might also consider Aqualung. The Titan D (D for dry environmental seal) Glacia is relatively inexpensive and a good cold water reg. I've used its predecessor the Titan D Arctic for years and am very happy with it. Aqualung has the Legend which is essentially an Apeks ATX200 without the 1/2" primary port, also a very good choice. If you have any inclination for future tech diving (and frankly even if you don't - see the H2 postings) go with the long hose and no octo.

I got to see the SD&T slide show of the trip at the dive show in Roseville this past winter. It looked pretty awesome.

A few interesting sites on diving under Antarctic Ice....I had an article at one point in time that said they were using Sherwoods, after having tested out dozens. Wish I could find that one now...

Have any of you dove extreme cold? Listening to your chat I'd say "not" I see one talks of balanced. Explain your version of balanced. There is a lot of industry people saying their regs are balance but a true balanced reg can't be accomplished in a diaphram reg. don't believe all the hype in your comparision dive magazines look at the tech info in the gas industry tech specs.

I've got a few dives in 32f-33f water. For that I've used my Poseidons. I'll never trust anything else.
Otherwise, I was just passing along some interesting articles.
