Re: Green Lake Ice 2-20-2010 - mermaid - 02-21-2010 The great time ya miss being a "wetsuit" guppy :-\ Re: Green Lake Ice 2-20-2010 - NETim - 02-21-2010 Rumor has it carp wrasslin' will be a demo sport in the next winter Olympics. Re: Green Lake Ice 2-20-2010 - mermaid - 02-21-2010 Rumor also has it that Detector will be doin' the demo! :o Re: Green Lake Ice 2-20-2010 - mattd - 02-21-2010 that sure is a cool story to have. I think you get extra man points for wrestling a fish out of a frozen lake. He was slippery so it was more like giving a bear hug to a greased pig. Believe it or not I stuck my fat gloved finger down his sucker mouth and inflated my BC with the other hand before giving the signal to pull me back. Two weeks ago I had a big bullhead in my hand with that one tine on his back locked in between my fingers when I tugged four times on the rope. I was expecting a fast pull but Shooter really pulled me in fast. I was crusing toward the hole and I almost hit that old wood boat that ArcFlash and I found earlier. When I arched my back to gain altitude and get over the boat, I lost my grip on the bullhead. It was that dive that we adopted a new rope signal: 3 tugs = "I found the target so pull me in kinda nicely". Sounds like a bunch of fish stories but I swear its true. [/quote] Re: Green Lake Ice 2-20-2010 - NETim - 02-21-2010 That's for sure. I can't imagine grabbing a carp and landing it by hand. That's not something that's done everyday. :o Salute! Re: Green Lake Ice 2-20-2010 - DetectorGuy - 02-21-2010 If I was to do it again, I would fillet it and then bring it up. That would be a story... Re: Green Lake Ice 2-20-2010 - Shooter - 02-21-2010 ;D ;D ;D You can tune a regulator but you can't tune a fish ;D ;D ;D amazing job on the carp! That was truly impressive. my dry suit smells a little fishy I would've liked to have gotten a little more diving in. I only managed to get in a 40 minute dive. It was good to get some training in with our other branch of safety and rescue. Two other divers had already been in the hole. I still managed to find two anchors and a fishing pole. The last dive on green, When we found eighteen anchors, the sixth dive still managed three anchors. Location location location. Team ICSD scores again. Remember without pictures it is only a fish story ;D I would actually like to look for a lake with lots of carp to do some wintertime spearing under the ice. Keep my shooting skills honed Re: Green Lake Ice 2-20-2010 - DetectorGuy - 02-22-2010 This was the third fish I have caught underwater but only the first that ever made it to the surface. Back in June of 2009 there was an Eelpout that was sleeping on the bottom at Arco Mine Pit near Crosby MN. I was at 75' when I saw it curled up around a rock. I thought it would leave as I reached for it but it was too slow. I held on to it for a few seconds while I grabbed my camera and then it squirmed away. I managed to get a few seconds of it as it left my hand. Here is a very short video of it: |
