Re:"P" Valves - LKunze - 04-26-2004 Yes, you do have to open the bolt to go but there's plenty of thread so you shouldn't screw it out too far. You can always carry an extra bolt just in case. The bolt is big enough to unscrew with dry gloves so no problem there. Re:"P" Valves - ghosch - 04-26-2004 How hard are they to install, is it something I need to send my suit in for, or something I can do myself? Re:"P" Valves - DRE - 04-26-2004 They're pretty easy to install yourself - just punch a hole in your suit, put in the P-valve and goop on some aquaseal. The worst part is putting a hole in a perfectly good drysuit. If you don't feel comfortable doing it by yourself, let me know - I'd be more than happy lending you a hand. David Re:"P" Valves - ghosch - 04-26-2004 Thanks for all the info., and offers for help. Sounds like I'll get one ordered. I'll see how complicated it looks when I get it and go from there...if I can't bring myself to puncture my drysuit, I'll let you know! Re:"P" Valves - shamre - 04-26-2004 Umm, not really sure how these valve thingies work. Trying to picture it in my head but the details are sketchy? It seems to me that would be kind of messy. this is the first i have heard of p valves and nobody i know uses one. Re:"P" Valves - DRE - 04-26-2004 Check out Re:"P" Valves - Freedive WI - 04-26-2004 It seems to me that would be kind of messy Not anywhwere near as messy as when I used to wear diapers under my drysuit. Thank God for P-valves! Jon Re:"P" Valves - JoelW - 04-26-2004 I used a gasket punch to put the hole in my suit. If I remember right, a 10mm or .40 caliber shell casing puts a hole that is about the right size. Sharpen the edge with a file and use it like a punch. The pain of putting the hole in the suit is more than made up for by the relief the first time the valve is really needed. JoelW Re:"P" Valves - Freedive WI - 04-26-2004 Here's a wetsuit P-valve off of the freedivng list- I swear it's not off of some porn, fetish site! I have never seen one used on a US made wetsuit, but I think this one came from Italy. Jon Re:"P" Valves - ghosch - 04-26-2004 OK, that is definetly NOT what I had in mind :o I can't believe that I've had this many questions on "how to take a leak underwater," but I assme that (based on the sketches on ) if there was a failure in the one-way check, you can simply screw the bolt in and seal it off (as opposed to getting cold water delivered directly to the worst possible location)? |
